ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
A motor car which was returning to Timaru from the Kurow races met with an accident near Morven tlirough a back tyro bursting. Of the three men in the car, the driver (Bombardier E. Gillespie) escaped with bruises, jVlr George Wills (Government grader at Timaru) sustained a compound fracture of the-right arm and several broken ribs, and Mr Victor Meehan a broken collarbone. The injured men were taken to the Waimate Hospital. A Yaldlrurst (Canterbury) farmer named Arthur Jones (52), single, shot himself through the head with a double-barrelled gun. He had been in ill-health lately. Mary Aim White, a married woman, residing at Pnpanui, committed suicide by taking poison. William Gwynne, aged four years, residing with Mrs L. Allen, Peter street, Caversham, was admitted to the Hospital late yesterday afternoon suffering from serious injuries received through coming into contact with a motor car on the Caversham road. The child was standing on the. footpath at the time, when a tyro of the car burst and caused it to swerve on to the footway and collide with the boy. The Hospital authorities report thas the little sufferer appeared to do fairly comfortable to-day.
Charles Withey, aged 36 years, employed as a laborer by Mr Preston, at Goodwood, was admitted to the Hospital this afternoon suffering from a fracture of the left leg. It appears that he was driving a cow into the yard, when the animal rushed against the gate, which fell across tho man’s leg.
