RIVER BOARD CONTROL
[Feom Otm Paeliamentaey Repohter.] WELLINGTON, August 29. Tho second reading of the Rivers Board Act Amendment Bill was moved in iho House- by the Hon. G. W. Russell, who explained that the ultimata aim of tho Government was to place control of a river from its mouth to its source in the hands of one single body, instead of its being vested in a multiplicity of boards, perhaps of conflicting interest*. Tbo Bill provided that if tho Government had roa»son to think anv board was not carrying out it* work properly a Commission would be set up to inquire Into the matter, such Commission to consist of a stipendiary magistrate, two engineers, and two laymen.
