Iho first concert this, se-aeon bv the above society will bo held in the King’s Theatre on Wednesday ‘evening. An attractive programme lias been arranged. Ono of tho chief items will be the repc-ti-F°u _ of t-ipnor Squarise’s ‘ Military Caprice,’ which was composed at the outbreak of this great war. When performed m 1914 one Press critic said : “As the last notes died away the audience broke into a perfect furore of appreciation. The composer was recalled and cheered continuously. 1 his item will undoubtedly appeal to the audience. The Philharmonic lio-cr-sty arc always progressive, and at this concert no less than four selections will be performed for tho first time in New Zeahind—namely. march 'The Night Patrol’ (Martel!), ‘Prelude ’ (Rachmaninoff), Jappn-c-eo dance ‘ lvo-Sa-Kc ’ (Chapui). and-a e-e----ksetion by the string section entitled ‘ U-' Corno Inopportune ’ (BoJ/.oni). The programme will also include the overture-‘ Buy Bias’ (Mendelssohn). 'Chanson du Matin’ (Elgar), and ‘ Tendre Adiein 1 (Mouton). Tho vocalists on thus occasion will be j\ii S3 Meda Paine and Mr S. G. Angell. Intending subscribers arc requested to communicate with Mr E. S. Wilson, Empire Buildings. A limited number of 2s tickets will be sold at the door.
