BOARD OF GOVERNORS
The monthly meeting of the Board of Governors of the Otago Boys' and Girls’ igh School was attended tin’s afternoon by the chairman (Mr T. K, Sidey, M.P.), Dr Fulton Messrs D. Borrie, J. Ross, ,j Dlark (Mayor). J. M. Galiavvay, D- TV ebb, and J. C. Stephens. Tile Chairman reported that the science goods for the Boys’ School, ordered 12 months ago, were on board the Tongariro, and ho had instructed the secretary to repent the order. The Works Committee submitted a report on Mr Mandeno’s report in reference to improvements and alterations to the schools recommended by Dr Champtaloup. —lt was recommended that the reports of Dr Champtaloup and Mr Mandeno be deferred till after the war. and that before any further permanent works are undertaken at the /lays’ High School the board should definitely settle upon a scheme in regard to future sites for necessary buildings and extensions.—This was adopted. .
A letter was received from the Director of Education asking for the assistance of school teachers in the administration of ihe Military Service Ad,.--It was referred back to the rector, with power to act. The .rector of the Boys’ School reported that tho total number of boys upon the school roll for tho last day o? the winter term, August 25, was 424'. Of these 103 wore seniors, 287 juniors, and 29 paying pupils. The corresponding totals for' the end of the second .term in 1913, 1914, and 1915 wore respectively 324, 557, and 372. A,veaw successful football tournament was held in Dunedin immediately after - the conclusion of last term, when we had the pleasure of welcoming about 60 visitors from Christchurch, Timaru. and Invercargill. The matches held on' August 26 and 30, were very evenly contested" tho school team finally coining off the winners by a narrow margin. In connection with the tournament out warm thanks are duo to tho High School Old Boys’ Association, a.nd particularly to Mr A. A. Finely, president, and Mr ,J. ,T. Mallard, conveneiv<sf tho entertainment committee, for their kindness in taking charge of all arrangements for tho matches and for tho entertainment of the visitors.
The Lady Principal of the Girls School icporood that the school hod r-ronmed n’ork. and that the roll number was 235 71 senior pupils, 159 junior free piano pupils, and 5 paying pupils. The roll numbers for tho samo month in 1913, 1914 and 1915 wore 191, 205, and 223 respectively.
