LONDON, September 19. . Recent responsible visitors to the front, including Lord Northcliffe, are impressed with the necessity for more men to make np the losses and to enable us to continue a most vigorous offensive.
A public campaign has been initiated, asking the Government to immediately comb out the munition works and Government offices, where thousands of youn<* men are sheltering. 3 The 1 Daily Alail ’ urges as a preferable course a most searching combing out, including exempts in "civil occupations, because men of 45 are unsuitable and quoting Sir Douglas Haig’s statement that “ war is a young man's game.” Numerous letters endorse the ‘Daily Alail’s’ suggestion. A wounded Australian officer from France says that another million men are wanted before Germany can be beaten. The Government are appointing a committee to comb out the mil:tarv"e!i'*ibies employed m the Civil Service. " ° Amongst the wounded on the Somme there are persistent rumors of the probable raising of the age limit for military service to 45. The Director of Recruitin'* says he knows nothing of such a proposal
