The City Brigade iceo-ived a <\all at 6.58 p.m, on Saturday to aa outbreak in Mr J. J. Marlow'i? fua'iiit-ure factory in Manor street. The. fire? was eoon. put out, and practically no damage, was demo. Another call was received last evening to a fire in a. two-story building in Market street, owned by Messrs Barr.ett and Grant, and occupied by Mr Tnnos. The building waa used aa a boarding-house. Tli© outbreak was confined to the kitchen and started in a cupboard, which, was destroyed. A small outbreak of fire, which would have been serious if it had not promptly been detected and stamped out, occurred at Seaclifl* Mental Hospital between 10 and 11 o'clock on Saturday night. Tho cause was the very common one oi woodwork being carried dangerously near the fireplace. A beam placed close underneath the hearth in tho original structure of the building became ignited owing to tho gradual thinning out of the hearth, and a fire was thus started which it would have been difficult to cope with if it had once got fair headway. Fortunately the tire brigade of tho institution soon got the fire out, and those patients who had to ho temporarily removed from their quarters were all'able to return to their beds in a short time. No damage was dono beyond the burning of bits of a few joists and flooring boards immediately under and in front of the fireplace, [Per United Press Association.] NEW PLYMOUTH, August 21. A fire at the Boya' High School at 4 o'clock this morning resulted in the destruction of the greater part of a class room and the gymnasium. The head master's residence had a narrow escape, but was saved, and also the boarding-house. A strong gale blowing made the brigade's task difficult. Insurances i £4,700. Little was .salvaged, the buildings and furniture being almost a total loss and the gymnasium wholly so. The hoard's loss* is barely half-covered.

AUCKLAND, August 21. R. Francis's bed factory at Ponsonby was destroyed by fire early this morning. The loss is_ estimated at £6OO, partly covered bv insurance.
