ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS

RAILWAY CROSSING FATALITY, A fatal collision occurred yesterday afternoon at the Pukepapa road railway crossing, Marton, between a motor car and a goods train. Douglas M'tean, aged 18 years, who was driving his mother and sister home with the side curtains down and the hood up, approached the railway line without noticing the train. The engine struck the car, wrecking it completely and throwing the occupants out. Sirs Donald M'Lean, who was a widow and a respected resident of Rangitikei district, was instantaneously killed. The driver sustained a broken jaw and a severe shock, and is in a semi-conscious state. Miss M'Lean escaped, injury.

A motor eair experienced a mishap while coming up from Port Chalmers to Dunedin to-day. One of the occupants, John CKShea, was injured, and went to the Hospital for treatment.
