The Hon. J. Allen* who has had very little leisure during his brief visit to Dunedin, leaves to-morrow by the second express for Wellington. According to private advice received by yesterday's mail the authorities of Glasgow University have decided to confer the honorary degree of D C.L. on Sir Thomas Mackenzie, our High Commissioner. The Hon. Nathan Ricks, Senator for the State of Idaho, arrived in Wellington by the. Moana from San Tra-n----cisco, and is touring New Zealand.
Tho New Zealand Cricket Council sent Home last week a wedding present to Lord Hawke, consisting of a greenstone paper knife with a gold band engraved " From the Cricketers of N.Z. to Lord Hawke on the occasion of his Marriage."
Vlv J. W. Fraser, town clerk of Port Cluilmers,. has received notice that he has hwn electixl an Associate of the Royal Sanitary Institute, London. Miss Downic .Stewart, president of the Ota-go and Soathl.v.id Women's Patriotic Association, returned yesterday from Wellington, whore she had beer? attending the Patriotic Conference.-
