MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Foord, claim £3 13s sd, goods supplied and interest, with costs (lgs) 5 Francis Gorman v. James Walker (Alexandra), claim £6 14s 6d for lodgings, with costs (.01 _ 3s 6d) ; Robert Wilson v. James Christie, claim £2 6s for rent, with costs (Iws); Hogg and Co., Ltd. v. John Ellis, claim £6 9s sd, amount of account stated, .with costs (£1 3s 6d); Win. Taylor and 80ns, Ltd. v. James Lucas (T'imaru), claim £2O Is 9d, goods supplied, with costs (£2 14s); Donald Eeid and Co., Ltd. v. Andrew Townloy (Mataura), claim £ll6 lis Bd, for stock sold and delivered, with costs (£5 18s). Judgment Summons.—W. S. Eeddell and Co. v. James Deans, claim for £1 10s 6d. Defendant did not appear, and was ordered to pay the amount forthwith, with costs (8s), in default two days' imprisonment. Agnes Carlino v. John Sutherland, claim for £4 63. Defendant ■-I'd not appear, and was ordered to pay tho amount forthwith, with costs (ss), in dvfauit five days' imprisonment. Otago Branch of the Carpenters and Joiners' Industrial Union (Mr Calvert) v. Arthur Kirby (Mr Moore). This was a. claim to recover the sum of £6 Is Bd. the amount of contributions and levies payable by defendant as a member.—Mr Calvert contended that under the Arbitration .Act tho union were- entitled/ to recover tho sum claimed, which covered two periods—one of 12 months and ono of 20 weks—at the rate of Is 6d per week and levies. The dispute was as to tho basi'fl of contribution, the defendant urging that the union were not entitled to claim mora than 6d per week under the rules.—Edward Kellett, secretary of tho union, was called as a witness, but was unablo to produce the certificate of the registration of the union in New Zealand, and tho Magistrate adjourned the caso to May 2 so that the certificate might bo obtained.
