THE NATIONAL REGISTER
GETTING AT THE SHIRKER. [Per United Phess Association.] _ WELLINGTON. .April 11. The staff of the Government Statistician has been largely increased lor the purpose of completing: the National Register. Some 150,000 names are in the possession of the department for the purpose of inquiry whether the persons therein set out have or luive nut sent in registration cards. Careful inquiry is being made through the police as to the correctness of the names and whether the person is of military aue. On receipt of this information the department will be ready to prosecute all ucit on the Register. The Cabinet has agreed that 14 days' grace shall bo allowed all unregistered men. The dales will be announced in due course, and. prosecutions will follow. Cabinet lias also determined to issue a further proclamation requiring all persons who have arrived in the Dominion since, the date of the National Register to forward their registration cards. It will also bo necessary for those, who have arrived at the military age since that date to forward cards. These proclamations will be continuous.
