Mr Myers) intimates to holders of hides throughout New Zealand that ho is now prepared to receive, and consider applications for the «sport of such hides a.s arc included in the embargo—namely, those weighing 451b and over—provided that tho exporters arc agreeable to set aside for delivery to the tanners {at tho fixed price?) 10 per cent, of Hie quantity they desio*to ship, in order that the Government might be in a position to ensure a suflicieut supply of heavy hides for military purposes to Lite tanners, who, on their part, would be called upon to enter into •in undertaking to manufacture .such hides into leather and to supply the boot manufacturers who are contractors for militaiy boot? and shoes at tile prices charged for the same class of leather at the time when they submitted their lenders about the middle of December last for tho Government’s military requirements for 1916.

At the final wool sale ycvlerdav 4.405 hales wore offered and 3.786 wr.ro sold. The tot.nl offerings this season wore 17.273 bales, or 6,000 bales loss Ilian last year. This is partly due to a reduction iii the number of sheep through two dry seasons, and partly to private sales. Yesterday a, large quantity of merino wool from 'the hill comitry sold well at 9 ; [d to 13Jd. Loral buyers were active, and Bradford took a good share, (‘food lialf-bred fetched 16d to ]7ld ; medium, 13d to 15jjd > super and three-quarter-bred, 14d to 16Jd : medium, 12Jo to lojjd t and cross-bred, up t-o 15i]d. Pieces sold well, best half-bred realising up to 15fd.
