To the Children of Groat Britain and Ireland and the Dominion of New Zealajid. Dear children. Will vou hcln w? "You all know, of (-curse, the'sad history of the }n.ov.ie of Belgium : how the Germans havb taken their country, and how large numbers of the Belgian families havo beer, obliged to leave, some coming to Kmland. others going to Holland and France. In many eases only the mother and children have left, and the father and big brothers have staved behind to fijrht- with their King:' and help to drive the Germans out of'the laud, ilanv of the children who have conn- (-.> Knakiid aie. quite, little ones. There are a. large numbe.r_ of babies—dear, small babies—and. it is tor theii we are askiinj your help—the help of the happy child ren'of theee. islands. A ,-hort time ago we received a- letter
from tho master of a. school a,t West Taierh Xew Zealaaid, sending £1 10s, which the ■pupils of his school had collected for the Belgians, a.nu. they specially wanted it to ha spent for the Beltruin* children. We had been troubled for "some time thinking of all the Belgian babies we knew in England, because sji order for them to jjrow tip strong; men and women if was necessary that they should have plenty of milk to drink— good fresh milk—and wo knew that their parents had no money to spend on milk. So when the money came from the Xew Zealand children it" wonted just the thiiijj we wanted. Not enough, of course, but we felt sure- at once that the children of England, of Scotland, Wales, and Ireland would iiko to join their cousins of Xe-v Zealand in helping the babies of Belsriiun.
Think what it moans, tou fortunate clildren w]y> have your homes, your (rood i food, and. so much happiness—think what jfc means to ho driven out of your homo, to he obliged to go away to a eountry where nil are strangers : * think how .cad for littlo cliildion—dear little babies—who ought to have comfortable homes and nice warm food, not to have onough milk, the only food they can take. lam sur« that mom* of you would be giiui to givo som/i of youv oT,ii big eupfuls. But tfiat is not Vhafc wo want, What we ask you to do hto giro eorae of vonr peimioe—givf-. tiv.m: tor tho Belgian babies instead oi spondin-.-them on yourselves. If you rein put av.av cno penny overy wonk, brm? thciii or them to 11.5 at ilw hcgiiminij of v.-.-h Month. Ask your friends .also to help us.
