AMUSEMENTS

ITJLLERS' VAUDEVILLE.

The- changes in the personnel of the company of variety specialists appearing at the Princess Theatre last night wean so extensive as almost entirely to reconstitute the entertainment. Brooks, the bewildering- magician and legerdemain adept, repeated his triumph of lac-t week, and the, Gther artists remaining oyer were Vcrtum and Sinclair (who played capitally in. ■a- most diverting little comedietta) and Delevale, and Gilbert (whoso ••slapstick" patter comedy work was uproariously received). One oE the most artistic of the nen- acts was tha "straight'' singing offering of pollai-d ami Jackson, operatic soloists and duetists. Mi is Maisie Pollard won favor at once with a- thoroughly sound interpretation of the somewhat ha-ekneved Ml 80-do," in which, the resources of a true and well-trained soprano voice were effectively rovealed. Mr .Jaoksou (who will be remembered by theatregoers as Walter Whyte (principal tenor whli J. C. Williamson's Gilbert and Sullivan Company), •followed -with an indefectible raidering'of 'Take a Pair of .Sparkling Eves.' and (as encore) "'Two Eyes of Grey."' Finally the artist* combined in the famous miserere duet from the prison scene of -II Trovatore.' _ It. -was a, splendid effort, evoking enthusiasm. Da Car, a comedy acrobat, disclosed some phenomenally good ground tumbling, cleverly salted his work with "mechanical" comedy of a- novel diavactow Bellor;:, a well-set-up and most personable young fellow, with an engagingly frank manier, made a big hit in" his mimicry of birds awl animals of the Australian hush. Every imitation was perjectly done. Ford and Davis "won out" in a. little- song sketch and musical medley, ort* of the secrets of their success being the engagingly fresh pcrsona'tit-v of the litle comedienne, of the duo. Filially. Con Moroni, the weii-known pantomime' artist, afforded much entertainment in several character impersonations. The company appear this and every evening. It is announced that on Friday morning, between the hours of 11 imd 1. Herbert Brooks will do a startling stunt in his steel chest from a lorry outside the Grand Hotel, the proceeds of the collection to go to the relief fund. Further, on Friday night he will, endeavor to meet the challenge of Mr A. Jeffs by escaping in 15 minutes from a packing case built tip on the stage in full view of the audience.
