A Press Association message front Christchnrch states that with a view to expediting if possible hemp shipments. Messrs Wm. F. Malcolm and Co., I/.ndon, have cabled to Messrs Win. Wood and Co., Christchnrch. that New Zealand hemp is largely required for the execution of army ami navy contracts, and hemp and tow for munition purposes. The consequences of delay in shipments are stated to lie serious. LONDON WOOL SALES. The Bank of England have received from their London "office the following cable advice regarding the closing of the present series of colonial wool sale.% in London : —" Loudon wool sales close firm. There were 10,000 New Zealand bales held over. Greasy cross-breds 10 to 15 per cent., and slipes 7/, to 10 per cent, dearer than September closing rates. Current prices :—Cross-breds, "coarse per lb, medium 18-J*d. fine 19d; merinos, inferior 11-/, d. superior 13id; half-breds, 19id ; sheepskins, all kinds 10 per cent, dearer." THE WOOL SALES. SYDNEY, November 22. At the wool sales to-day all superior sorts sold, at the best rates of the season.
