RECRUITING IN OTAGO
MR PARR SAY'S OTAGO DOING WELL. [From Oua Own Reporter.] WELLINGTON, September IS.Air C. J. Parr, who returned this morning from a recruiting visit to the South Island, contends that Otago has been doing very well in contributing men. He declares that the figures on which the Auckland critics rely are wrong, as instead of 200 he -was* crediblv informed that Otago sent 473 men to the Eighth Reinforcements, and has 882 recruits for the next reinforcement, instead of oil. Against Auckland’s 1,700, as contended, Mr Parr says Otago will easily raise a thousand men for the next departing force. He adds that the northern critn cism was evidently based on wrong figures, and deplores the raising of the North v. South cry..
