QUEEN CARNIVAL

The final meeting of the " B" shift committee of the Tramways section of the Queen Carnival, prior to disbanding, was held in the recreation i-oom at the tram carshed last night. The first part of the evening was devoted to business. When this had* been satisfactorily disposed of those present were entertained at a social by the chairman, Mr James Read, and a roost enjoyable evening was spentSongs were rendered by Messrs Geo. Williams, Bentley, Sturgeon, and Gatdt. and a recitation was given by Mr J. Read. The, Chairman proposed a hearty vote of thanks to those who had assisted at the recent carnival, which was earned by acclamation. Complimentary votes were also accorded the chairman and SeCrei&ry. TRAVELLERS' AND WAREHOUSEMEN'S QUEEN. The. final meeting of the executive of the Travellers' and Warehousemen's queen was held in the Commercial Travellers' Club rooms last night, Mr James Brown presiding. It Was resolved that the hon. treasurer* statement of accounts be adopted, and that the chairman and treasure* be authorised to wind up any business that mav arise, and pay the balance of moneys in hand to the Queen Carnival executive*. Mrs F. W. Mitchell wrote expressing her high appreciation of the loyal support which had been accorded to her as Queen No. 11, and her admiration of the wholehearted manner in whitth the-varioOß Organisations of the section had worked towards the eplendid result achieved. Mrs Mitchell concluded by saying: "At first I regarded the queens as mere figureheads, but so much kindness, consideration, and friendliness was shown to me personally that my position as a queen was made a pleasant' one." The executive's thanks were accorded to Mr Donald Reid and Mr C. H. Stetham Wr the use ot rooms in Dowkng streetMessrs Speight and Co., Thomson, anal Co., and to the various carrying companies for assistance in many wavs,- particularly by the frequent use of their motors and horse lorries. A special vote of appreciation of the services of the queen, Mrs Butterworth chairwoman of the ladies' executive, and the chairman brought the meetih*' to a close. ° .
