PETROGRAD OBJECTIVE.
MATTER OF SEA CONTROL. London ‘Times’ and Sydney ‘Sun’ Services. ' LONDON, August 12. The ‘Daily Mail’s’ correspondent at Petrograd says; “To-day the first hint was given of the possibility of an endeavor by the enemy to reach Petre°Tad. •The ‘ Novoe Vremyi’ declares that "Germany is trying to develop operations in the regions adjoining the roads leading to the capital,, with the object of bringing into 5 play, a hew lever Tor fresh pressure on the Balkans.
“An advance against Petrograd is con-sidered-unlikely, unless the Germans obtain command of the Baltic, and the Russian Baltic fleet is regarded as a safeguard for the security of the capital.” A Copenhagen message states that the German Baltic fleet are using Libau as a base and repairing'harbor and fortifying ,the town.
