IN BALTIC PROVINCES. PETROGRAD, August 13. Official: We repulsed German attempts to overwhelm our outposts in the Riga region. Our troops, advancing successfully, are pressing the enemy in the direction of the Jacobstadt-Dvinsk front. We occupied Kovarsksoviany, north of Vilkomir (north, of Vilna), after a fight. We continue to repulse assaults west of the Niemen as far as Jessin. The Germans are making persistent attacks on the roads from Hotza to Sniabova. W© have assumed a counteroffensive'on both, sides of the Kieff-Maikin (?) Railway. Wo repulsed the enemy with heavy Josses between the Wieprz and the Bug. Their losses were especially severe east of Ostrow (?), where the German "dead lay in enormous heaps. A German cquadron in force on August 10 bombarded the Alands and Skerries lighthouses, and put to sea on the appearance of bur warships.
