GARDEN FETE AND CARNIVAL AT OAMARU.

An advertisement appears elsewhere with referent-? to a tr.-yden fete and elaborate carnival to be held at Oamaru on East or Monday. Our North Otago and Oamnru friends, not content -with bavins already transmitted nearly £4.000 for the relief of the starving and suffering Belgians, but rightly recognising thati much more is required to be done, have organised a carnival for the purpose of raising more funds. An elaborate programme has bee • prepared for the day, with some items of more than pr.fsing interest. From a spectacular point of view the chief of these is the Living Flag, to be given by 200 school children, with appropriate vocal and instrumental music. This remarkably striking picture has been a, theme of admiration and pleasure wherever produced, and a, good deal of work is being put into its preparation in Onmaru. Then there will be two tngs-of-war for the open-weight and middle-weight championships respectively. For these there are strong entries, ]>j:iediu, Chrietehurch, Timaru, Oamaru, Waimato. Palmers-ton, nnd several North Otago centres being represented. Tn connection with the Lathering a queen of the carnival competition is being held, and is exciting keen interest throughout North Otago, The result will be made known during the afternoon, and he followed by the crowning ceremony. In addition to providing holi-day-makers with an afternoon's pleasure, the committee anticipate raising a big sum in aid of a cause that needs 'assistance. Excursion faros will prevail on the railways, and the departure of afternoon trains will be delayed to enable visitors to witness the whole proceedings. A trip to Oamaru on Easter Monday would provide a capita] onting.
