The death of Dr Tohill, Roman Catholic Bishop of Down and Connor, has removed a big power from behind the scenes amongst the Ulster Nationalists. Ho was of a quiet, unassuming character, and was selected by the Pope because he did not take any part in politics ;»-at the same time, his advice was always sought by his northern co-religionists.

LONDON, July 6. (Received July 7, at 9.10 a.m.) Mr Redmond has received a copy of an approved resolution from the New York Committee declaring that they are determined to arm the Nationalist volunteers, otherwise the sad story of Grattan’s volunteers will be repeated. The resolution in sists on Mr Redmond forcing the Government to withdraw the arms proclamation or else to relinquish the control of the Nationalist volunteers. AMENDING BILL. READ A SECOND TIME.
LONDON, July 6. (Received Ju'ly 7. at 12.10 p.m.) In the House of Lords the amending Bill (Irish Horne Rule) was read a second time by 275 to 10. HOW THE TALLY STANDS.
Since the last General Election the Unionists have won 16 seats. At present the state of parties in the House of Commons is:—Unionists, 288; Liberals, 261; Labor, 57; Nationalists, 76 ; Independent Nationalists, Btotal Coalition vote, 383. Immediately after the last General Election the Governmnet bad a majority of 126; to-day their majority is 96.
