, ITS PRESSING NEEDS. [Pot United., Pbess Association.] PQXGOROA, April 30. A deputation asked the Hon. W. Eraser that land be thrown open for closer settlement, with particular reference to Burling's Eetate, situated near Pongaroa township. They declared that there was a great demand for workers' homes. The "Minister said the Prime Minister's main object was to promote close settlement and smaller areas, and that was the feeling of the whole Cabinet. He would place the representations made before the Minister of Lands, and felt sure that the latter would obtain a full report- on the 6ubject. Mr Eraser said further that there could be no gecera' prosperity unless land was held in smaller areas in a reasonable way, thus increasing the population and assisting the railway revenue. Every effort should be made in that direction.
