BETTER MEN INSIDE GAOL THAN OUT

Th« Eev. W. H. G. Shapcott, chaplain of Wormwood Scrubbs Prison (London), beaevss that within the walls of that gaol there are many finer and better men than can ha found among any ultra-respectable congregation at worship in a church. He elaborated this View in a sermon which he recently preached at Headstone, Harrow. A friend, ho stated, recently said to him: “ What a terrible job yours must be among all those blackguards.” His answer was: “ No, it is not. lam among some of the best of men.” These men have had the pluck and energy and the daring and the Brilliance to do something other .men dare not do. The respectable man thinks he is a grade higher, and so ho is, but only socially. I doubt if, in the eyes of God, some of these men I have under me are not better and on a higher grads fban the nice, respectable men*”
