MOTOR CYCLE COLLISON. TWO MEN SERIOUSLY INJURED. Between 6 o'clock, and 6.30 last night two motor cycles, ridden by Alexander Smith (a resident of Bradshaw street. South Dunedin) and a man named M'Douald (of Alianton), collided on the road at Springbank, near Alianton, both riders being seriously injured. The two men were" riding in opposite directions, and •came together without any warning, each being unaware of the approach of the other. They were found on the road in an unconscious condition, each with a terrible wound on his forehead. The poiioe at Mosgiel and Dr Allan were immediately informed. The doctor attended to the men as best he could under the circumstances, and then sent them to the Dunedin Hospital in his motor oar. The car reached the Hospital shortly after E o'clock, when it was found that both men had sustained serious injury. Smith's condition was very critical, and he was operated upon last night. M'Donald was partially conscious, and complained of severe pains in his legs. Smith is a married man, with one child, and employed as a turner by Messrs A. and T. Burt. This afternoon there was no., improve ment in Smith's condition. A TERRITORIAL'S DEATH. A serious accident, which unfortunately ended fatally, occurred at the pamp at Matarae on Saturday, Trooper William Harold Philpott, of Heriot, being thrown from his horse and crushed beneath the animal. He was at once brought to the Dunedin Hospital, where he was found to be suffering from concussion of the brain, and but small hopes were entertained for his recovery. He never rallied from the shock, and died about 10 o'clock last night. Philpott, whose parents live at Inveroargill, was about 21 years of age. An inquest will probably be held. ACCIDENTALLY SHOT. Thomas Partlett, a married man, living at 30 Stuart street, was accidentally shot in the thigh on the footpath onteida tha Leviathan Hotel about 10 o'clock thu morning. John Charles Walters was handling a revolver, which he intended to give to Bartlett, and while he was loading it a cartridge became jammed, and the weapon discharged. The btjllet eiw texed Bartlett's thigh. The injured man was removed to the Hospital. A FRACTURED KNEECAP. A very regrettable accident happened at Forbury on Saturday, Edgar M'Connochie, of "the Otago Hockey Grub, whilst engaged in a practice match, having the misfortune to be struck heavily on the knee by an opponent's stick. The injured player was conveyed to the Hospital "in the ambulance, and on examination it was found that his kneecap wae complete! y fractured. He is progressing as well as can be expected, but will have to remain at the Hospital for some weeks.

YOUNG MAN KILLED AT WINTOX. On Saturday a young man named W. L. Watson, of Wanton, met with an accide.'ii with fatal results. "D. Miller, 23 years of age, died in the Naseby Hospital"last week from infantile paralysis. He visited the. Middlemarrh Show on Easter Monday, and getting overheated, contracted a cold, which probably gave him a predisposition to catch the disease. This is the second case of <lm disease in the district, but fortunately ths other case is progressing favorably. The man who was knocked down by a tram ear at Newmarket on Friday night, and who died in t\x& Auckland Hospital next morning, was Edward Deerey, between 40 and 50 years of age.

The body of George L. Martyn, reported missing from his home at Whangamata (near Waihi) since Monday night, was picked up on Tekao Beach, near tha mouth of the river, which he is supposed to have attempted to cross in & boat. The body of John Winters, who disappeared from the steamer Putiki a fortnight ago, was found on the river beach at Castlecliff (Wanganui) on Saturday. Mrs Ida Greville Smith, a widow, died at Wanganui on Saturday as a result of taking poison. At the inquest a_ verdict of " Suicide while temporarily insane" was returned.

Ee was "a storekeeper in Colombo street, Sydenham, and had been engaged in stocktaking. At the inquest a verdict of "Suicide while temporarily insane" was returned. Deceased leave?; a widow and two children.

A boy named Gordon Carlson wa.<s knocked down by a taxi cab at Avondale. His skull was fractured. He was removed to the hospital.—Auckland telegram.

A Gipborive message says:— A waggon driven by a man named Jack Vernon was found on Sunday nftemoon overturned on the bank of the creek Ngatapa. Vernon is missing, and is believed to have been drownod in the creek, which is in a flooded state. A later message states that the waggon skidded and fell into th< creek. The body of Vernon has been recovered.
