BURGLARY BETWEEN THE DANCES.
A young man who was said to have loft a dance to rob his partner's room was th» defendant .-it Westminster Police Court recently, when Charles Russell, of Ovington street, Chelsea, was eent for trial on charge* of felonious entry and rohborv ,it Chelsea, West Drayton, and Eedfont. Mary Tavpey, a housemaid, f.aid the prisoner, _ who had been. " keeping company" with her. took her to a dance at Chelsea on November 7. At his suggestion eho entrusted Win with her latchkey, as she had no pocket. On returning home she found that £2 .and gome jewellery had been etolen, as well as valuable property fiom fellow-servants. When Russell was arrested on December 31 duplicates tplatino to the stolen property were found on him, Bind also gold studs, which were part of the proceeds of a rohfcery at Lipeon, ne.ar West Drayton. Evidence was given of prisoner's connection with other burglaries and of a statement in which h.J said that, having got the key, he left the girl at the dance, went back to the house, and got into her bedroom. He had intended having the mistress's jewellery, but could not get it. He \va6 not away more than ten minutes.
