THE CROMWELL HOSPITAL

■ GRIEVANCES VENTILATED. THE VERDICT. The alleged complaint against the management of tho Cromwell Hospital was ventilated at a special meeting on Tuesday afternoon, when the trust hold a sitting which occupied just over three hours. Tho alleged grievances were: (1) From a resident to the'effect that a measles patient could not be admitted to the hospital on tho grounds that a special nurse could not be procured, an<s the case bad to be treated in the • complainant's hotel, and (2) from a ' patient, that the nurse had been away from the hospital for lengthy periods on four successive days; that the diet waa not satisfactory; and that he did not receive the attention he should have received. The complainants, the nurse, and tho flpctor were present, and each was questioned by the trust in regard to the charges, which were for the greater part denied. In committee- the trust formulated the finding, which read as follows : (1) That while the committee believe that most of the trouble was Mr Graham's (the complainant) own fault, since he did not promptly complain, they consider that the nurse was somewhat lax in her attention to Mr Graham, and that the doctor be informed that the matter is in his province, and needs closer attention. (2) The nurse should not have been absent so long on consecutive days, and in future must get permission from the doctor for leave on all occasions. (3) Measles Case.—That the nurse be exonerated, the doctor's statement accepted, and Mr Spratt (complainant) be informed that the doctor committed an error of judgment in refusing the case. These were the most important findings, and may serve to clear the air to some extent, but whether any finality has been reached in the eyes of the public is another question.
