White, the hero of Ladysmith, was destroyed 1 by lire, which is attributed to the suffragettes. It is believed that the criminals entered Lady White's empty mansion with skeleton keys and saturated the basement with petrol. The outbreak was discovered at 10 a.m. Messages inscribed "Votes for women" and "Stop torturing our comrades in prison " were found. Two suspected women were cycling in the neighborhood after tho outbreak. The damage is estimated at £4,000. The women sprinkled spirits on the main stairway from the garret to the ground floor, and fixed the windows open so as to create, a draught. The whole building was aflame simultaneously, and burned for seven hours. Lady White was absent at the Riviera. She, like her late husband, is quite unconnected with the suffragettes' movement. A golf house at Weston-super-Mare was destroyed by fire. It is believed that the suffragettes were responsible. Correspondence which has been found in the studio of Olivo Hocken, who is charged with conspiracy to burn the Roehampton g.olf pavilion, includes a letter from Mrs Pankhurst inciting her to acts of violence and outrage.
