KAIKORAI DRAINAGE

MR SLINGER'S SCHEME. Representatives of the Taieri County Council, the Green Island Borough Council", the Mornington Borough Council, and several managers of the factories in the Kaikorai Valley met Mr A. SlingeT (Drainage Board engineer) last evening, when he explained his Kaikorai drainage scheme to them. The various representatives carefully went over the plans and the report prepared by Mr Slinger. The questions discussed were (1) whether the board should extend their drainage area to cany out tho whole scheme temporarily so far as the filtration works at the lagoon were concerned; (2) whether a separate body should be set up to deal with the whole area, which would relieve the Dunedin area of Roslyn and the Maori Hill portions ; (5) whether there should be legislation to construct the main line sewers only, and let each borough provide their own reticulation; (41 whether the bodies concerned should adopt a comprehensive scheme for the whole.valley, and if it were found that it was not within their means to do the whole work, whether they might not amicably agree with the Drainage Board as to what temporary measures might be taken to deal with the north end of the Kaikorai by way of the tunnel. The representatives of the various bodies interested will at a later date meet tho board and discuss all these points.
