Casement, in his evidence before the House of Commons Committee, stated that the Putumayo directors were cognisant of the state of affairs at Putumayo. Arana had visited the region in order to conceal traces of the crimes. Men were sent out with rifles to catch Indians, and those fleeing were shot down. The London office was aware of these criminal methods.
