MEETINGS AND SOCIALS

The Dunedin Central Scout Cadets paraded in the Garrison Hail on Thursday evening last under Lieutenant Jones, with whom was associated Lieutenants Orbell and Waleott. The work for the evening comprised Swedish exercises and a route inarch. The discipline, and esprit de corps of the company are good. The annual combined ball <£ the Foresters' Court wa-J held in Wilson's Hall, Kaitangata, on Friday last. Over 100 couples took part in the grand inarch. 13ro. Middlcmass and Bro. Taylor were the secretaries, and they were assisted brothers of the committee and from Dunedin centres. The hall was artistically decorated by the officers with banners and evergreens. Dancing continued until 5 o'clock on Saturday morning. The music was 'supplied by Alessrs Sullivan and Poole. Our Cromwell correspondent writes : The Dominican Convent School concert took place on Wednesday evening in the Athenreum Hall, which was packed to the door by a highly appreciative audience. The various items were well rendered, and showed the care, and skill the sisters display in their teaching and training. A cantata, ' Tho Judgmeni. of Flowers,' was especially well done, the hand-some dresses of the girls, each representing a dliferent flower, forming a pleasant spectacle. Tho receipts totalled over £SO. The Alayoi (Mr E. ilurrcll), in the absence of Father Hunt, thanked the audience for their patronage and the pupils and their teachers for the evening's entertainment they had provided.
