THE BRITISH RIFLE.
Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright,
MELBOURNE, August 26.
Commenting on the strictures by Major Richardson, an English expert, that the British service rifle, which has been copied by Australia, is inferior to the rifles of other nations, and that it lost the marksmen at tho Olympiad an average of 10 points each in their matches, Senator Pearee says that the Imperial authorities regard it as equal to any rifle. The only thing is that the others had a lower trajectory and greater velocity. Tests were at present being made in England with a lower trajectory, and several of these had been sent to Australia for experimental purposes.
