MINING.

(For continuation see Late S"! : ">ping.)

CROMWELL NOTES. Spring has fairlv set in. The weather has been very mild all the week, and as the frost has" left th* ground farmers are busy ploughing all over the district. The snow is fast disappearing from the ranees, but, strange to say, the river is falling lower every day, so there is every prospect of the gorge dredges having a long and successful season. Electric No. 2 had another very fair return. That from No. 1 was no better than can be expected, considering tho way the ground had been gone over before.

The Cromwell Syndicate's dredge is steadily working its way into the Bannockbum Creek.

On the C hit ha Shine No. 1 had another oOoz return on the Risine Sun boundary. About another fortnight's dredging and the cut will b? finished up to the Sun's lower boundary.

Mr Gordon is making: rapid progress with the erection of Shine No. 2's pontoens, n.s the timber is coming steadily to hand.

The Rising Sun has the cut squared now. and the machinery is running well, as U£'Ull. Tho Confidence dTedge will soon be among the gold winners on the Clutha River. Tho Hartley Company's new dredge is waiting for a rise, in the river to enable her to reach the claim. Continued favorable reports arrive as to the quality of the stono being got in the Carrick Company's mine. Operations will soon be in full swing in the sluicing and elevating' claims on the Nevis. —Own correspondent. WAIHI SHARES. Freas Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, August 26.
