RUGBY. REPRESENTATIVE RESULTS. The Ranfurly. Shield match Auckland v. Wellington resulted in a win for the home team, who scored 12 points (four tries, all credited to Macky) to nil. Wellington several times looked menacing, but failed to cross the home team's line. The attendance at Alexandra Park is set down at 15,000. The game was hard and fast. West Coast defeated Canterbury at Christchurch by 17 points to 14. The weather was fine, and the ground in good order. A Wellington second team succumbed to Marlborough at Athletic Park, Wellington, by 10 points to 3. The home backs proved" singularly inefficient, and almost without exception played off-color. Wan garni i 35 defeated Nelson 6 (a try awarded for obstruction and a penalty goal) at Wanganui. Manawatu 15 beat Wairarapa 3 at Palmcrston North. This was indeed a surprise packet, for the visitors had downed Taranaki a couple of days previously. OTHER GAMES. Otasio 6 points defeated Waihemo County 3 at Waihemo. Canterburv College 12 beat Victoria College 3at Wellington. The visitors possessed the better combination, and outlasted their opponents. Southern 6 points defeated Greon Island 3, and won the fifth grade championship. OTAGO'S TOURING TEAMS. The. following players have been selected to represent Otago : Northern Tour. September 3.—Tuapeka. at Roxburgh. September s.—South Tuapeka, at LawTence. September 7.—South Otago, at Balclutha. THE LEAGUE CAME. KEW SOUTH WALES v. WELLINGTON. Brilliant weather prevailed at Wellington on Saturday for the New South Wales-Wellington League game, and fully 7,000 spectators witnessed the play at Newtown Park. The local thirteen quite held their own with the visitors in the first spell, New South Wales being outplayed in the loose and dominating the sorume, and the score at half-time being 11 all. In the second half New South Wales simply overwhelmed the local representatives, and added 34 points to their tally, the game ending : New South Wales 45, Wellington 13. The local attack lacked combination, their passing being very faulty, while the ground fielding was never safe. South Taranaki 26 points beat Wanganui 13. SCHOOLS JUNIOR BANNER. The banner has been won this year by the Musselburgh School team, and ttie event was celebrated by a very pleasant function held at Brown's Exchange Tea Rooms on Saturday night, when the winners were entertained by the School Committee. Several supporters of the boys' team were also present. After an enjoyable tea, Mr J. Harris (chairman) congratulated the team on their meritorious win, and specially mentioned the services of their coach (Mr Patterson). Mr H. Harris (president of the 0.R.F.U.) presented the junior banner to the captain (Eddie Broad), and complimented the boys on their play and on the spirit in which all games were played. Short speeches were made by Mr S. B. Mac Donald (Mavor of St. Kilda), Mr J. J. Marlow, Mr C." Taylor, and Mr W. H. Dunning. The Chairman, on behalf of the boys, presented Mr Patterson with a gold medal, suitably inscribed, as a token of appreciation of his interest in the outdoor sporte of the school. Mr Patterson suitably responded, and mentioned that five Musselburgh boys had been selected to play against Invercargill this week. Mr J. White (head master) thanked the committee for the splendid manner in which they had recognised the boys' win, and all friends for their kindly interest in tlie boys. Messrs J. Deaker and T. Patterson entertained the boys with elocutionary items which met with hearty applause. The company afterwards adjourned to Fullers' Pictures, where seats had been reserved.
The trial match played" on the Caledonian Ground on Saturday resulted in a win for the Colors by 11 points to 8.
