THE INYERCARGILL TROUBLE. At a special meeting of the executive of the Southland Rugby Union, to be held on Monday evening, an endeavor will be made to sift to the bottom the question of the alleged misconduct of members of the Otago team, complained of by the proprietor of the Railway Hotel. The step taken by the local body is the outcome of a request from the Otago Union, received last evening. The northern body asked that everything be done to sheet the blame home to the offenders. The evidence was required so that the whole matter could be dealt with before the Otago team left on their northern tour. Mr A. Dey, vicepresident of the 0.R.U., was in attendance at the meeting, and explained various matters concerning the allegations. The union on Monday evening will take the evidence of the Southland footballers who stayed at the hotel on the night in question, the proprietor, and several boarders at the hotel. In this Otago wore, perhaps, more prominent, their backs revealing a superior knowledge of the finer points of the game. The Gore forwards were a heavier pack, and it was largely duo to their efforts that several vigorous attacks by the local team were warded off in the last quarter. SOCCER. REPRESENTATIVE RUGBY. Wairarapa unexpectedly defeated Taranaki at New Plymouth yesterday by 17 points to 13. In the secoud half the Wairarapa forwards simply ran over the local pack, who were obviously stale. There was no element of luck in their win, for they were easily the better team on tho day.
