CHARGES AGAINST A SENATOR. Prew Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. WASHINGTON, August 22. In the Senate, Senator Penrose admitted receiving £5,000 during 1904 from Mr Archbold on behalf of the Standard Oil Company, but declared it was intended for the Republican Presidential campaign fund. Mr Roosevelt knew of Mr Archbold's contribution. Senator Penrose alleged that Mr Roosevelt had made a second demand for 30,000d0l (£6,000) from Mr Archbold. Senator Culberson seized the opportunity to press his Bill forbidding campaign contributions by corporations. The debate was adjourned. THE NAVY PROVISION. WASHINGTON, August 22. The House of Representatives adopted the conference report on the Naval Appropriation Bill, providing for one new battleship and a number of auxiliary cruisers and submarines. The total expenditure for the year will be £25,000,000. The Bill now goes to the President.
