(Received January 30, at 9.50 a.m.) The evidence given at the inquest on the body of Mr Watson, the victim of the Ililigrove tragedy, showed that bad blood had existed between deceased and (he young man Skinner, who has been arrested on suspicion, owing to the latter paying attentions to Watson's daughter against the parents' wishes. The two men had frequent quarrels, and Skinner is known to have threatened Watson.

The drought continues, and many districts are suffering severely through scarcity of water. The Thirlmere consumptives' sanatorium had to be closed, and the outlook for farmers is serious.
