Sydney files show that ( Mehegan, Australia's champion light-weight boxer, was hard put to it in defeating the ItalianAmericanbboxe s Picato, last Saturday week. The contest went tho full 20 rounds, and there was little surplus one way or tho other at the finish, and but for a fierce hustle on Mehegan's part in the last round against a tired adversary a different result, so 'Sydney Ileforee' says, might have been chronicled. The champion was sorely pressed all tho way in a Last and clever bout. " Mehegan's left forearm was badly bruised, and as a consequence, his match with Hock Keys, set down for the 14th, has been postponed. The Australasian record for a mile and a-quarter is 2min f>}sec (Son of the Marsh, 8.1) at Randwick in the Craven Plato on October 9, 1909. Lady Medallist yesterday carried 8.13, when she covered the distance in 2min 6|eec. The mile record is lmin 37|scc, by Montcalm (9.3), at Randwick on April 14, 1909. Lager'a lmin yesterday was a good gallop.
