START ON AN EMPIRE TOUR. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, October 3. (Received October 4, at 11 ajn.] The Quinlan Opera Company tour has commenced, at Liverpol. They scored a success in ‘Valkyrie.’ [The itinerary will land the company at Dunedin in the winter of 1912. Their repertoire consists of ‘Carmen,’ ‘Faust,’ ‘Hansel and Crete],’ ‘Madam Butterfly,’ ‘La Boheme.’ ‘The Prodigal Son.’ (Debussy), ‘ Tales of Hoffmann,’ ‘ Aida,’ ‘ Tannhauser,’ ‘Lohengrin,’ * Ttisbrsn ,’ ‘Valkyrie,’ and Puccini’s latest opera ‘ The Girl of the Golden West.’ The last-named should gain in effectiveness by being- sung in a language more associated with the Wild West than Italian. The principal artists include Mnws Lalla Miranda, Muriel Terry, Edna Thornton, and Messrs John Coates. John Harrison, Lyndon At res, Allen Hinckley, Charles M'Grath, Clarence Whilehill, and Arthur Wynne. There is to ho an orchestra, of 55 incrementalists, and the chorus will include 50 voices trained by Mr Broadbent. The conductors are Mr Onthbert Hawley and Mr Foghera, who will be assisted by Mr Hubert Bath and Mr Frank Mummery.]
