MILITARY TRAINING.

PETONE ROUGHS INTERPOSE. A SKULL AND CROSS-BONES. [Fee United Peess Association.] WELLINGTON, August 4.

The examination of young men registered for military training was continued at the Hutt Jast night under difficulties. A procession of about 300 young fellows formed at Petone, marched to the drill hall at the Hutt, singing, shouting, beating tin cans, blowing whistles, bugles, etc. The leaders cf the crowd were dressed as clowns and comedians, and carried a banner with a skull and cross-bones on it. At the outset a stone was hurled through the skylight of the hall, and the police arrested the man who threw it. Later on nearly every pane of glass in the building was similarly broken. The doors of the hall were closed when the authorities recognised that the mob meant mischief, and the young fellows called u]>on to submit to medical examination wore admitted one. by one. An attempt was made to storm the hall, but the police and Permanent Artillery men were able to frustrate this. The police were hustled, and some eggs thrown at them. A large number of youths declined to enter the hall to bo examined, fearing that they would be roughly handled by the mob. The Defence Department will probably take proceedings against the ringleaders in the demonstration.
