NELSON, August 2. Bv the accidental explosion of gelignite' at a clav bank cutting 10 miles from Murchison, W. Sewell, Woodham, and David Sewell were, seriously injured. William Sewell was ramming home the last plug while David was preparing another when the tamping stick was blown into W. Sewell's face and body, making large wounds. No details are to hand as to the present condition of the sufferers. " CHRISTCHURCH, August 2. . At an inquest at the hospital this morning concerning the death of Lena Buchanan, aged 22, married, a verdict was returned that death was due to septicaemia, following childbirth. The medical evidence was to the effect that the case was an extremely bad one, but the doctors could not say where the infection came from. Tho nurse who attended the patient was unregistered. She said she was positive that she took all necessary precautions, and suggested that as two people had died in the same house the building might contain disease germs. The Coroner remarked that an unregistered nurse ran a great risk in undertaking sxich a case. One doctor, in his evidence, said there were hundreds of unregistered women practising as midwives in Christchurch.
