A tennis court is at present being constructed on the Asylum Ground, on the north side of the Kaikorai Company’s tram line. A former road line has been taken in by the members of the Tennis Club, which caused Cr Stilling to ask last evening how that came about. Cr Todd (chairman of the Reserves Committee.) explained that permission was granted to the chib to lay down three courts, and it was understood at the time that they would interfere with the track across the Belt, but not to any considerable extent. The club had agreed to lay down 4ft of asphalt alongside the tram line for a footpath. - He had brought under the notice of Air Tannock the necessity of clearing the broom off all that part of tho Asylum Ground. A letter appeared in Wednesday’s ‘ Star ’ complaining about this club being allowed to make am enclosure on a portion of the Asylum Ground. The same matter was mentioned in the City Council, and it is understood that as a result of a visit paid to tho ground this morning by tho Reserveis Committee that the club have to leave an opening at each end of the old joad which runs through the ftftdqwo.
