(Received May 22, at 9.65 a.m.) The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 3,550,000 quarters, and for the Continent 3,950,000 quarters. The Atlantic shipments were 310.000 quarters. The total shipments for Europe are 2,025,000 quarters, including : —Argentina, 354,000 quarters; Russia, 910.000 quarters; Danubia.n provinces, 135.000 quarters; India, 109,000 quarters; and Australia, 75,000 quarters. Bidding was keen for both oaU and fowl feed, but potatoes and chaff were very dull of sale, j The following are the prices ruling ; i Oats, - -During the hist week there lias been a strong demand from both shippers .and millers, but the offerings from j tho country are very light. Prime Gar- i tons ami sparrowbills are in demand, while duns, black, and Algerians are wanted for seed All small lots are readily picked up by the local trade. We quote : Prime milling, 2s 4fd : good to best feed, 2s 3d to 2s 4,/ d ; medium ouU, 2s 2d to 2s 3d ; inferior and damaged. Is lid to 2.s Id per bushel (bags extra). Wheat.—The market still remains (inn. although cables from Guidon state that the market is slightly easier. This is to be accounted for by shippers having booked supplies and buying any’ lots of wheat for shipment which come within their limit. Prime velvet and Tuscan arc most in request. Fowl feed is fairly scarce, and meets with a very good sale : hero at more than its shipping value. We j quote -. Prime velvet, 5s fid to 3fi 6/d ; velvet car and Tuscan. 3s 5d to 3s fid ; whole fowl feed, os 3fd to 3s 4d ; broken and damaged, 3,s to 3s 3d. Potatoes, During this last week con- j siguments have been heavier than usual, and the market is if anything weaker. Prime potatoes still continue to be quitted I quickly on arrival, but medium and in- j ferior potatoes are very hard to sell. Quotations ; Best table sorts. £4 to £4 2s j fid : medium to good, £3 7s fid to £3 15-s; inferior and damaged, £2 10s to £5 5s per j ton (bags in). Chaff. —The market still continues to bo well supplied and vendors are firm holders. Buyers have large stocks in hand, ami the business passing is not of a largo nature. Prime oaten sheaf is saleable ax quotations, but inferior quality is more, difficult to sell. We quote : Prime oaten sheaf chaff. £4 to £4 ss: medium chaff. £3 ICs to £3 15s : light, £2 10s to £3 per ton (bags extra). Messrs Donald Reid and Co. report : We held our weekly auction sale of era in and produce at our stores to day. There was a moderate attendance of buyers and Olliers interested in the trade. For oats and wheat there was fair competition, but for potatoes and chaff bidding was slack, and only a portion of the offering was disposed of. Values ruled as under: Oats.—Prime Cartons and Sparrowbills have been in strong demand during the { past week, and prices have advanced i slightly. Wheat.—The London cables received towards tho close of last week had the effect of checking local sales to some extent, and buyers are nut now so keen to operate at late values. Fowl wheat is not ever plentiful, and for good whole there is ready sale We quote : Prime, milling, 3s Spl to 5s fid; good, _ss fid; best whole fowl wheat, 3s 3jd to 3s 4jd ; medium to good, 5s to 3s 3d ; broken and damaged, 2s 4d to 2s lOd per bushel (sacks extra). Potatoes.—The market continues to be well supplied, and for table sorts the demand is somewhat quieter. Prime lots arc in most favor, indifferent lots being difficult to place. There is ready sale for good seed lints of all descriptions, and if carefully picked satisfactory prices can be got. We quote : Be-st tabic potatoes, £4 2s fid to £4 ss; medium to good. £3 10s to £4; inferior, £2 10s to £3 ss; seed lines, £4 10s io £8 per ton, actoiding to class and quality. Chalf.—Supplies are coming forward more steadily, and all prime quality is readily dealt with on arrival. Medium quality is not in request, and straw chilli is not moving off freely. Wo quote: Best oaten sheaf, £4 2s 6d to £4 7s fid ; choice, to £4 10s; medium to good, £3 12s fid to £4; light and inferior. £3 to £3 10s; straw chalf, £2 to £2 10s per ton (bags extra). The beef market is quiet. .Supplies -of American chilled are large. New Zealand hinds, si|d ; fores. 2=d. The butter market is dull. Buyers are holding back, expecting prices to go lower. Choicest New Zealand. 105s; Australian, 98s; Danish, 108s; .Siberian, 965. The cheese market is dull. Some buyers sre forcing sales. New Zealand, 595. Tho hemp market is dull, and there L; no immediate change in tho market. New Zealand good to fair, on tho spot, £2O ss; fair grade, £l9 ss; forward shipment at same price ; fair current Manila. £lB 10s ; forward shipment, £l9. The output for the week from Manila was 26,000 bales, Tho wheat market is firm, owing to tho prospect of reduced supplies. New Zealand long-berried, ex granary, per quarter of 4961b, 55s fid; short-berried, 545. The oats market is firm, but the demand is only moderate. New Zealand short sparrowbills, ex granary, per quarter of 4961b, 35s fid ; short sparrowbills, _ex granarv, per quarter of 3841b, 20s ; Danish, per quarter of 3201b, 17s fid.
