MAYORAL ELECTION.
TO TUB EDITOR. Sir, —On Wednesday the electors of Dunodin will be called upon to decido who is to be their mayor for the ensuing twelve months. It is not generally realised that the mayor, during his term of office, to a considerable extent controls tho Council, and ex officio is a member of each Committee. It behoves the electors, therefore, carefully to weigh in the balance the records of the two candidates. A referenco to "who is who" in your Saturday's issue, giving the careors of the candidates for mayoral honors, should enable anyone to arrive at a correct conclusion as to which is tho moro practical and has had the greater opportunity of fitting himself for the mayoral chair. There are other considerations, and it is desirable that there should be at the head of tho Council one who makes for progress. In the present history of our City we cannot afford a stand-still policy. A number of important undertakings have to bo earned out during the present year, most of which would have como under tho practised hand of Cr Wilson, and if we do not return him at the head of the poll on Wednesday his services aro lost to the Council entirely.—l am, etc., Crvis. April 24. TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Trippers to our seaside resort will have no difficulty in deciding as to which candidate is likely to suit them best. Mv Wilson h?s shown in a very marked way that he favors a deal being done to cater for the pleasure of the people, while Mr Burnett, by his vote, has shown that he is not in favor of providing means thereto. —I am, etc., Father of a Family. April 24.
