THE ATHLETES' POINT OF VIEW.

10 THi IDITOR. Sir, —There is one section of the community—and not a small section—which the candidates for municipal honors would do well to take into account. I refer to the athletic section. There has been a great deal of talk lately at cricket, football, and similar funotions abont the scarcity of athletic grounds, and we who take an active interest in sport know this to be only too true. We know, also, that the Council have been approached more than once, but rarely show any practical sympathy with us. Any applications for extra playing grounds are referred to the Reserves Committee, and it appears to me that this Committee base their de-

cisiohs entirely on reports from Mr Tannock, whoso ideas are wholly in the direction of making pretty flower beds or planting trees on all available spaces. This is very nice, of course, but scarcely satisfying to those young, hoalthy members of the community who are " spoiling " for an opportunity of exercising their limbs. My point IB this: Tho chairman of the Reserves Committee (Cr Burnett) is a candidate for the mayoralty, while Crs Keast, Todd, Fiddis, and other members of tho Committee are out for re-election. Now is the time to make the athletic vote felt. If these gentlemen will not support us in tin matter of extra playing spaces, then let us " vote for the other fellow.—l am, etc., Sport. April 24.
