MAYORAL ELECTION
Ci’ John Wilson’s Caversham Committee ; met last evening. Mr J. M‘M. Brown occupied the chair, and said that the Com- i • mitteo had sent in close upon 1,000 enrol- | ment forms, and he could honestly say ; that 90 per cent, of those enrolled had done so to assist in securing Cr Wilson’s . return as mayor. Messrs D. Stevenson, Liddicoat, T. Brown, and A. Kennard I endorsed the chairman’s remarks. Tho i central secretary reported that he was pre- ! paring a scheme which would require tho united efforts of all committees. Ho was confident that if the committees continued , to work in the same systematic manner, I aided by the fact that electors could not I but recognise their candidate's conscion- I tious and painstaking attention to all mat- ■ ters pertaining to municipal business, Cr Wilson's untiring zeal and energy would receive at the hands of tho electors the fitting recognition by placing him in : tho highest position its was in their power to bestow. Cr Burnett’s committees continue to make excellent progress in the mayoral campaign. Tho High, Bell, and South Ward Committees held their ordinary weekly mootings on Wednesday evening, and the Leith Ward Committee on Thursday evening. All the members continue to report enthusiastically of tho support being accorded to Cr Burnett, and are unanimous in expressing tho opinion that he will be returned by a record majority. Meantime Cr Burnett’s lady supporters have not been idle. The South Dunedin Ladies’ Committee (now- numbering over twenty) held a meeting on Wednesday afternoon, and the ladies in the various other wards are taking an active part in the campaign. j
