BRISBANE, March 20. (Received March 20, at 9.9 a.m.) Tho chief medical ofiicer at Manila, has arrived here. lie gives a vivid description of the recent eruption on the island of Taa.l. The explosion, ho says, was heard at a distance of 250 miles. It was followed hy a tidal wave, which swept for six miles .inland. The inhabitants were exterminated, the only living tiling afterwards found being a monkey. All tho bodies recovered, numbering about 1,500, were completely naked. The seismic wave travelled as far as the town of Lemery, tho country around subsiding to a depth of 6ft.
