RECIPROCITY AGREEMENT
OBDURATE SENATORS. Preaa Auociation—By Telegraph—Copyright* WASHINGTON, February 28. An effort, was made to show President Taft the hopelessness of calling a new Congressional session by inducing the Senate to take a preliminary vote on the Reciprocity Agreement, and thus demonstrate the Semite's overwhelming hostility. President Taft was not convinced, and renewed his determination to call an early session of tli3 new Congress. He says he must have the new Sonate's well-considered pronouncement. PROGRESS IN CANADA. OTTAWA, February 28. A vote on tho Reciprocity Agreement is not expected tiil the end of tho week, or perhaps not till the week following. The Government are sure of their party's almost unanimous support. NEWSPAPER COMMENT. LONDON, February 28. (Received March 1, at 10.10 a.m.) The Tall Mall Gazette' (0.) says it appears to be settled that there will bo an extra session in April. The failure of tho Senate to pass the Reciprocity Bill was a grave blow to Mr Tal't's hopes, as much depended on rushing tho Agreement through before Canada had time to digest it. Dominion hostility, the paper affirms, is deepening, and Reciprocity is becoming lather cold porridge.
