As the result of development work at Mokihinui, there is likely to be a big revival in quartz mining in that district. Some little time ago the men working in what is known as the Red Queen district located a reef 20ft wide. They have since gone on with development work, and have uncovered 40ft of the reef, which appears to be of a permanent character. Careful assavs made at the Westport School of Mines of specimen stone brought to the town gave the handsome return of 31oz to the ton.
