♦- A wash-up on the Island Blodc claim on Saturday jjroduced 1220z. This is really a progress return, being the result of the first wash-up from the bottom of the present paddock. There was no wash-up from tho Central Charlton dredge last week. Tho master, writing last Thursday, says:—Since shifting into cut 2 the ground is very shallow, alwut 7ft or Bft, and the clay very sticky. There is only about 6in of gravel, and this is poor, very little gold showing on tho mats. Tho dredge was working or. the west sido of the cut until yesterday, when it was shifted to tho eastern side of th? same cut, to feo if there was any improvement. The toj) tumbler shaft on the main ladder of the Golden Bed dredge broke on Saturday. A new one will be made as expeditiously as jiossible. It is announced from London that the Waihi Gold Mining Company have placed an order for six water turbines and governors, each to develop 1,500 U.p.. for their new power station ou the llora Ilora rapid 6, with Mefsts Jens Oiten-Boving and Co., of London.
