The dredge-master intends dropping aits 4 and 5 at present, as the dredge is hampered for tail room. Tho returns reported from the gold mines in the Auckland <listrict during the past month reached a total of £108,719 Os [ 7d. This, when compared with, the aggregate for the previous month—viz., £105,681 14s lid—represents an advanceof £3,037 5s Bd, but when contrasted with the yield for October, 1909, it shows a falling off of £2,327 15s 7d, tho total for | that period being £111,046 16s 2d. The past month's yield completes tho total for the hist nine months of tho year, [ and brings the total value of bullion won irs Auckland province during that period to tho substantial figure of £1,024,632 7s 7d. Compared with £985,918 15s Id, tho yield for tho corresponding pericd of last year, this gives the big increase of £38,713 12s 6d. But for the falling off in the returns from the Waihi mine to the extent of £17495 during the past nine months, the increase would have been greater still. The biggest contributor to the increase '■s the Waihi Grand Junction mine, the returns from which, during the past threequarters, exceeded those of the corresponding three quarters of last year by £30,093 Is 4d. The Old Hauraki mine, Coromtuidel, is also responsible for £12,043 6s 4d of the net advance, and the New Zealand Crown mines, Karangahake, which were closed down List year, for £10,104. Of the past month's total the Ohinemuri field contributed £103497 16s 3d, the Thames field £3,238 7s Id, and-the Cororaandet field £2,282 17s 3d. THE OLD HAURAKI MINE. Allowing for a slight waste in further treatment, and estimating the balance as worth £3 an ounce, the value of the return may be put down at about £SOO. This, compared with the return for the previous month, represents a falling off of about £416, the yield for September being £916. 12s from ilO tons of quartz and 2801b of picked stone. The total value of bullion won from the mine by the preeent company to date is £14,829 5s Id.
