LAWN TENNIS. A meeting of the Committee of the. Otago Lawn Tennis Association was held last evening, Mr R. S. Black (president) being in the chair. Tii a Canterbury Association wrote agreeing to November 26 as tho date of the match against Otago. and saying that tho match could be played on grass courts. — It was decided to write suggesting thai, as Otago players were used only to asphalt courts, they might give a better conteston such courts, but at the same time te leave the matter entirely in the hands of the Canterb rry Association. It was reported th.it arrangements had been made for playing off for doubtful places in the team.

In connection with the difficulty which has arisen in regard to the A grade competition, it was decided, after discussion, that rule 15 of the regulations prepared by the Match Committee should be altered to read : " The Committee of the Association will grade tho players in each club, and it will not bo permissible for a club to play teams or any member in a lower grade without the consent of tlie Match Committee." The effect of this alteration is to give the Association definite power te grade the teams entered by clubs, and, in accordance with 1 his, the tennis were graded as follows : A Grade.—Roslyn. Halritj/'r-v.-cn. Kaitnna (2), and Otago ,£'. B Grade.—North-cast Valley, lloslyn, Balmaeewen, Mosgiei, Anderson Bay. Yit. Kilda., and University. C Grade.—North-east Valley. Exception was taken to the action of the New Zealand Executive in submitting proposals for amalgamation to the New Zealand League of Wheelmen, in face of the ■decision of the delegates at the annual conference that the Union should take over tho cor.trol of cycling, and it was decided to write to the secretary asking; why the Executive had not adhered to the resolution carried at the conference and why the step had been taken without consulting the Centres. Complaint was also made with reference to the ccfion of the Executive in adopting rules for tho control of cycling without consulting the Centres on the mailer; and further objection was taken owing te the Executive not submitting rule:, for the Sheffield Handicap to the Centres. NEW ZEALAND RUGBY UNION. The Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union met at Wellington last night. Tho Marlborough Union forwarded a resolution expressing the opinion that the time had arrived when the Buller, West Coast, Nelson, and Marlborough Unions should have a representative as one of the selectors of the South Island team.—Referred to the incoming Committee. T. A. Grace wrote with reference, te the proposed tour next season of the. old scholars of To Aute College in New South Wales. The suggested team would consist of about twenty-two players, and the tour would extend over four weeks, if there was any profit from tho tour it would be given by the To Auto' College Association for Charity in aid of the Hu litre re Maori Girls' School, recently destroyed by fir©.—lt was decided that the Union could net approve of the proposed tour at. this juncture, considering tho time inopportune. 'Hie function, which was attended by a large number of members and lady friends of the club, together with representatives of kindred clubs, proved niest enjoyable. Tho toasts ltonored included "Otago Centre N.Z.A.A.A.," " Pacific Harriers," " Kindred Clubs," "' Prize-winrters and Supporters," and " Ladies." The programme, comprising music, Jong, and story, was rendered by Misses E. Baker ;md E. Ford, and Messrs T. Dawson, E. Morrison, and J. White. The Chairman said that tho attendances at clnb runs had been highly satisfactory, six members securing badges for taking part in tho whole twcnlyone runs held. The clnb races were well contested, member:; showing promising form. He hoped to see the clnb well represented in the D.A.A.C. evening meetings. In presenting the prizes, ho remarked that J. A. Bond had won the Fivemile Cross-country Chanrpionshrp of the club for the second year in succession, and in addition had this year won the Port to Dunedin Road Race.
